Jack Grealish
Everton’s former FA Cup hero, Anders Limpar, has issued a passionate plea to the club’s chairman, Dan Friedkin, urging him to re-sign Jack Grealish for the upcoming season. The call comes after Grealish’s impressive performances since joining Everton, which earned him the Premier League Player of the Month award on his 30th birthday.
Anders Limpar said: “The fees nowadays are just diabolical. You used to pay £1.6million for a player [his own fee when he moved from Arsenal to Goodison Park], now we’re talking about £80million. We’re talking about £50million for Jack Grealish. You could buy the whole Premier League back in the 1990s for £50million, it’s just ridiculous money. However, my message is buy him, buy him, buy him, Everton, please, because he’s the man who makes other players look good. When he’s playing, he takes the pressure off of Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Everton need to play like that, to be calm on the ball, getting the team up 10, 15 yards up the pitch. You need a creator. He is a big character in the dressing room. Everybody loves him, the fans love him. And I pray that he’s almost fit to play again because it was a horrendous injury with operations and everything. Do something to make sure that he’s playing next season for Everton. Even if he still goes on loan, or buy him, please do it because he’s a great player for Everton Football Club and all the players around him love him, he has to be the priority.”
Limpar, who is fondly remembered by Everton fans for his role in the club’s 1995 FA Cup victory, emphasized the importance of Grealish’s influence both on and off the pitch. Grealish, who joined Everton last August under manager David Moyes, quickly made an impact by providing four assists in his first two starts. His presence has been a significant factor in Everton’s attacking play, offering creativity and relieving pressure on teammates like Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The Swedish football icon’s plea highlights the financial challenges faced by clubs in the modern transfer market, contrasting it with his own transfer fee from Arsenal to Everton in the 1990s. Despite the high costs, Limpar believes that Grealish’s value to the team justifies the investment, whether through a permanent deal or another loan spell.
As the club looks to strengthen its squad for the next season, Limpar’s appeal underscores the need for Everton to prioritize retaining key players who can elevate the team’s performance and maintain a positive atmosphere within the dressing room.
