As the Premier League season approaches its conclusion, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest prepare to clash with contrasting objectives. United, currently third in the table, find themselves unable to climb higher due to Manchester City’s significant lead. However, a slip to fourth is possible if they lose their remaining matches and Aston Villa secures victories. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest, sitting 16th, has already secured their Premier League status for the next season, rendering their remaining matches less consequential.
Ahead of the weekend’s encounter, both managers, Vitor Pereira of Nottingham Forest and Michael Carrick of Manchester United, provided updates on their squads’ fitness.
Vitor Pereira said: “He started today to work with the team with the mask. Let’s see. It’s strange when he uses it but I spoke with him and he said he’s OK with the mask, no problem. We’ll see if he’s in condition for the next match.”
Pereira also mentioned the progress of Dan Ndoye and Ibrahim Sangare, who have rejoined training but remain uncertain for selection. Unfortunately, Murillo and Ola Aina will not be available for the upcoming fixture.
On the other hand, Manchester United is dealing with its own injury woes. Casemiro is expected to return after missing the previous match, yet others remain doubtful.
Michael Carrick said: “Ben’s not as straightforward as Case. He’s still not 100% with the problem he has. Apart from that we’re alright.”
Additionally, Matthijs de Ligt, sidelined since November due to a back issue, will not return this season following surgery. De Ligt expressed gratitude for the support received during his recovery and remains eager to return to action.
Both teams face challenges with key players’ availability, adding complexity to their strategies. Nottingham Forest, having secured their league status, may approach the match with less pressure, while Manchester United aims to solidify their top-four finish. The outcome of this fixture could have implications for United’s final league standing, making it a crucial encounter for Carrick’s side.
