Enzo Fernandez
Enzo Fernandez, the World Cup-winning captain, was absent from Chelsea’s recent 7-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Port Vale and is expected to miss the upcoming clash against Manchester City. The absence follows a media storm surrounding comments made by Fernandez, which led to speculation about his future at the club. However, the situation has been clarified, with Fernandez offering an apology and both parties moving forward amicably.
Javier Pastore said: “We’ve already talked about this in recent days. These are statements he made without any intention of causing problems at Chelsea. He’s the captain, one of the team’s leaders, and he’s shown his best form on the pitch this season. He was simply talking about a city.”
Javier Pastore continued: “Then there were a lot of interviews in a short period where he talked about his future. The media mixed things up and started saying he was going to leave Chelsea. There’s absolutely nothing to it. We’re on the same page with Chelsea. We made peace yesterday and the day before between Chelsea and the player. There were never really any problems. We cleared the air.”
Javier Pastore also noted: “He’s only 25. He’s still young, he still has things to learn. We explained to the club that he said it without malice, that he made a mistake. He naturally apologised to the club, his teammates, the coach, the sporting director, everyone. We’re all on the same page. We simply had to clear up the misunderstanding.”
The comments from Fernandez, which were made during a series of interviews, were misconstrued by the media, leading to rumors of a potential departure from Chelsea. However, both Fernandez and Chelsea have clarified that there was never any intention to leave the club. The player has since apologized to the club, his teammates, and the management, ensuring that everyone is aligned moving forward.
Chelsea, currently competing for a Champions League spot through the Premier League, considers Fernandez a key player in their squad. The resolution of this misunderstanding allows both the player and the club to focus on their objectives for the remainder of the season.
