Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal faces a pivotal period in their season with a series of crucial fixtures, including a Champions League quarter-final and a league match against AFC Bournemouth. The Gunners are looking to regain momentum after recent setbacks in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Manager Mikel Arteta is hopeful that the injury list will shorten with the potential return of key players like Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber, providing a much-needed boost as they prepare to face title rivals Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta said: “They [Saka and Declan Rice] haven’t travelled in yet, let’s see, hopefully they’re going to be ready for the weekend, if everything goes well. That’s a massive boost because in recent days we’ve lost so many important players and that’s something that we need to change immediately.”
Bukayo Saka is being carefully managed for the upcoming decisive games. While he is not expected to be ready for the midweek fixture, there is optimism about his availability for the weekend clash against Bournemouth. Declan Rice, on the other hand, is set to return sooner, with no significant muscular issues reported, and is expected to be back in action against Sporting CP.
Jurrien Timber, who has been sidelined for three weeks, was close to making a return against Southampton but was ultimately not included in the squad. His focus now shifts to being fit for the weekend match against Bournemouth. Gabriel Magalhaes, who suffered a knee issue during the Southampton game, is also expected to return for the Sporting CP encounter.
Leandro Trossard, who returned early from international duty, missed the Southampton match but has been declared fit for the upcoming Sporting CP fixture. Meanwhile, Eberechi Eze’s return remains uncertain due to a calf problem, with Arteta unable to provide a definitive timeline for his recovery.
Mikel Merino continues his recovery from foot surgery, with hopes of returning to play later this season. Piero Hincapie, who sustained an injury while on international duty with Ecuador, has been confirmed to have a significant issue, though no return date has been set.
As Arsenal navigates this challenging phase, the potential return of these key players could be crucial in their pursuit of success in both domestic and European competitions.
