Nathan Tella
Nathan Tella, a pivotal figure in Bayer Leverkusen’s recent successes, has committed his future to the German club by signing a new five-year contract. Since joining from Southampton in 2023, Tella has been instrumental in Leverkusen’s achievements, including their historic league title win in the 2023/24 season under manager Xabi Alonso.
Nathan Tella said: “It’s a special relationship. The first few years here were marked by fantastic success. It’s great fun to now also be part of the development of a new, strong team.”
Tella’s journey to Leverkusen began with a successful loan spell at Burnley during the 2022/23 season, where he scored 17 goals and played a crucial role in Vincent Kompany’s team securing the Championship title. Despite Burnley’s interest in making the move permanent, they were unable to reach an agreement with Southampton, allowing Leverkusen to capitalize on the opportunity.
Simon Rolfes, managing director of Bayer Leverkusen, said: “We are delighted to have retained such a likeable and top-class professional in our ranks for the long term. Nathan Tella is a key player on the pitch and an incredibly important figure in the locker room. His identification with Bayer 04 is palpable and evident every day. On the pitch, his pace and footballing quality are the outstanding attributes with which Nathan enriches our team.”
Tella’s impact at Leverkusen has been significant, with 96 appearances and 10 goals to his name. His ability to adapt and thrive in the Bundesliga has made him a fan favorite and a crucial component of the team’s attacking prowess. The new contract not only secures Tella’s services for the foreseeable future but also underscores Leverkusen’s commitment to building a competitive squad capable of challenging for top honors in Germany and Europe.
The decision to extend Tella’s contract reflects Leverkusen’s strategic vision to maintain continuity and stability within the squad. His presence is expected to be vital as the club aims to build on its recent success and establish itself as a formidable force in European football.
