Gabriel Gudmundsson
Leeds United’s Gabriel Gudmundsson, who has been a standout player since his £10 million transfer from Lille last summer, faces suspension following a controversial red card against Crystal Palace. Despite his absence from the upcoming match against Brentford, the impact is expected to be mitigated by the form of James Justin. Manager Daniel Farke praised Gudmundsson’s dedication both on and off the pitch, while the player has also won over the Leeds fanbase with his performances and sportsmanship.
Gabriel Gudmundsson said: “I’m not surprised. I’ve always believed in this opportunity and that’s probably why I chose Leeds too. They were very keen to get me in and I felt that there was a good opportunity to get a lot of playing time. But precisely because they were so keen to get me in, it felt like there was a good opportunity to get a lot of playing time in the beginning and then it’s flowed very well. Then it’s always like that, I think the more you play, the better you get.”
The Swedish left-back remains optimistic about his future at Leeds, highlighting the club’s eagerness to sign him as a key factor in his decision to join. Gudmundsson’s confidence in securing ample playing time has translated into consistent performances, further solidifying his position within the team.
Despite his suspension, Gudmundsson will remain active on the international stage, as he is set to participate in Sweden’s crucial World Cup play-off campaign. Should Sweden triumph over Ukraine, they will face either Poland or Albania for a spot in the finals. Meanwhile, Leeds teammates Karl Darlow, Daniel James, Joe Rodon, and Ethan Ampadu have been called up for Wales’ play-off campaign. James, who has struggled with injuries, will look to make an impact as Wales prepares to face Bosnia & Herzegovina, with a potential final against either Italy or Northern Ireland.
In contrast, Brentford faces uncertainty over midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard’s availability for their upcoming match against Leeds. Damsgaard, who has been instrumental with four assists in recent games, suffered a knee injury during a 2-2 draw with Wolves. Brentford manager Keith Andrews expressed concern over Damsgaard’s condition, adding to the team’s growing list of injured players.
Keith Andrews said: “He will be a concern… I haven’t spoken to the medics yet. I think it’s his knee. It has been frustrating, and he has played through a lot of pain, so we have to see how he is.”
As both teams prepare for their upcoming clash, Leeds will aim to maintain momentum despite Gudmundsson’s absence, while Brentford will hope for positive news regarding Damsgaard’s fitness.
