Ryan Christie
Bournemouth’s recent encounter with Brentford ended in a goalless draw, despite several promising chances, including a notable opportunity for Ryan Christie. The match, held on Tuesday night, saw Bournemouth’s midfield orchestrate a series of plays that nearly broke the deadlock. A particularly impressive exchange between Christie and Evanilson on the edge of the box set Christie up for a potential goal, but the chance went unconverted.
Ryan Christie said: “I haven’t seen it back, I’m scared to watch it back! I’ve done that about four times against them. I’m sure people will be sending me that tonight to watch and I can lose some sleep over it!”
Ryan Christie continued: “That was probably the best we’ve played against them in a long time. Obviously frustrating overall. I think maybe after a few days you look back and think, it’s a good clean sheet and good point. You keep the unbeaten run going. But we were desperate to chase and catch up with them in the league, which is the frustrating part.”
On Bournemouth’s strategy, Christie explained: “It’s a bit cliché, you need to do the basics very, very well. They don’t really need to be in a game to kind of score goals. So, stuff like that, winning your individual battles, bouncing balls in the middle of the park and just try and play at our tempo, like I said, and even when the ball goes out, they like to stop play and calm things down. We wanted to stay on the front foot, and for the majority of the game, I think we did that. So that’s a positive to take.”
Reflecting on previous encounters, Christie added: “You think of the reverse fixture at their place where they dominated most of it. I thought tonight was the polar opposite and all that was missing was a goal.”
Despite the missed opportunities, Bournemouth’s performance against Brentford marked a significant improvement from their previous 4-1 loss earlier in the season. The team managed to maintain a clean sheet, extending their unbeaten run. Christie’s comments highlight a sense of frustration at not capitalizing on their chances, but also an acknowledgment of the positives, such as their ability to control the game’s tempo and stay competitive against a strong opponent. The draw keeps Bournemouth in the chase to improve their league standing, as they continue to focus on executing the basics and maintaining their momentum.
