Leon Bailey
Leon Bailey has opened up about his recent return to Aston Villa following a challenging period at AS Roma. The Jamaican winger, who initially joined the Italian club on a season-long loan, faced a series of injuries that limited his appearances under manager Gian Piero Gasperini. Originally, Roma had the option to purchase Bailey for £19 million, but after starting just one Serie A match, he was recalled by Villa. This move coincided with Evann Guessand’s departure to Crystal Palace. In a candid discussion on the Official Aston Villa Podcast, Bailey shared his thoughts on his return and his aspirations for the remainder of the season.
Leon Bailey said: “I’m delighted to be back. I’ve missed everything about Villa when I left. First of all, I missed the dressing room, with the boys, I missed the dressing room. I did miss the manager a lot, too. He is, for me, the best manager I’ve had, and I think he’s amazing. Not just the manager, the staff around it as well. All of them, they all play a massive part. They’ve helped my career a lot, and I’m grateful for that. To be back in that environment is amazing. I feel like I’m learning again. I feel like I’m in a good place. It’s deep for me with the staff that is here. To be back here is amazing. My goal has always been to be part of something, where you can say you’ve been somewhere from the start and see the end result.”
Bailey added: “I am hoping to put my best foot forward all the time. I want to help the team as much as possible with the best of my abilities. I said it in the meeting today that two years ago, we were in a good place like we are right now.”
Bailey’s return to Aston Villa marks a significant moment in his career, as he seeks to re-establish himself within the team. His comments reflect a deep appreciation for the club’s environment and the positive impact of the coaching staff on his development. The winger’s determination to contribute to the team’s success is evident, as he aims to leverage his skills and experience to aid Villa’s ambitions this season.
The decision to bring Bailey back to Villa Park underscores the club’s faith in his potential and the value he brings to the squad. With the Premier League season in full swing, Bailey’s return is timely, offering Villa an additional attacking option as they strive for a strong finish. His focus on teamwork and personal growth aligns with the club’s objectives, promising an exciting period ahead for both Bailey and Aston Villa.
