Ian Rush Kenny Daglish
Liverpool legend Ian Rush recently made a public appearance alongside Sir Kenny Dalglish at an event for the Marina Dalglish Appeal, just months after a significant health scare. The former forward, known as Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer, had been hospitalized with breathing difficulties due to a severe flu. Now on the road to recovery, Rush expressed gratitude for the support he received during his ordeal.
Ian Rush said: “It was frightening, and I honestly thought I wasn’t going to survive. I got up around 2am because I was struggling to breathe and went downstairs to make myself a cup of tea.”
Ian Rush continued: “Feeling so much better now — thank you for all the wonderful messages and support from the entire LFC family and everyone who reached out. It truly meant the world to me. My heartfelt thanks to the incredible team at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The care, kindness, and dedication of the NHS staff were absolutely brilliant, and I’m deeply grateful for everything they did. A very special thank you to my partner, Carol, who was there for me every step of the way and helped me through it all — I couldn’t have done it without you. Feeling grateful, blessed, and thankful for all the love and support.”
Rush’s health scare occurred when he contracted a severe flu, leading to his collapse at home in Chester. He was subsequently admitted to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where he spent 48 hours in intensive care. The 64-year-old’s recovery has been a testament to the support from the NHS staff, his partner Carol, and the wider Liverpool FC community.
Earlier this week, Rush attended a charity event for the Marina Dalglish Appeal, which aims to enhance cancer care in Merseyside. The charity, established by the Dalglish family in 2005, has been instrumental in supporting cancer patients and improving treatment facilities. Rush, dressed in formal black tie attire, shared a photo of himself with Sir Kenny Dalglish, highlighting the significance of the cause.
Rush’s legacy at Liverpool is monumental, having made 660 appearances and won numerous honors. His recent health scare and subsequent recovery have only strengthened the bond between him and the Liverpool community, showcasing the power of support and resilience.
