Sir Jim Ratcliffe Glazers
Manchester United’s ownership has been under the spotlight recently, with Jim Ratcliffe, a billionaire who acquired a minority share in late 2023, at the center of controversy. Ratcliffe’s comments on immigration and his praise for Reform UK leader Nigel Farage have sparked backlash, leading to protests against the club’s owners, including the Glazer family. The protests took place ahead of Manchester United’s recent home game against Fulham.
Jim Ratcliffe said: “In addition to the inaccurate figures mentioned, it’s worth reminding him that Manchester United has a diverse fan base and plays in a city whose cultural history has been enriched by immigrants. I mean, the UK is being colonised. It’s costing too much money.”
Jim Ratcliffe continued: “I’ve seen quite a bit of this at the football club. If you do difficult things, which we felt that we had to do at Manchester United… we felt like they were the right things to do.”
Jim Ratcliffe added: “Well, I’ve been very unpopular at Manchester United because we’ve made lots of changes. But for the better, in my view.”
Since taking control of football operations through his Ineos group, Ratcliffe has made several controversial decisions, including sacking two managers, Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, during his two-year tenure at Old Trafford. These actions have not only led to internal changes but have also drawn criticism from fans and stakeholders who question the direction in which the club is heading.
Ratcliffe’s management style and public statements have created a divide among supporters, with many expressing concern over the club’s future under his influence. The ongoing protests reflect a broader dissatisfaction with the current ownership, as fans demand greater accountability and transparency in the club’s operations.
