Morgan Gibbs White
In what was a relatively quiet January transfer window at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest made minimal changes to Sean Dyche’s squad. However, Morgan Gibbs-White, who was the subject of much speculation last season, is once again in the spotlight. The 26-year-old midfielder, who nearly joined Tottenham Hotspur last summer before signing a new contract with Forest, is reportedly attracting interest from Aston Villa.
Morgan Gibbs-White said: “Oh yeah, 100 percent,” he said last year, when asked if signing a new Forest deal was an easy decision. “After everything we’ve been through together and knowing that we were back in Europe, I really wanted to continue that journey. That was a big reason as to why I wanted to stay.”
Evangelos Marinakis said: “Morgan is a special player – not just in terms of talent, but character and mentality. He represents everything we want this football club to be: he is a winner, talented, ambitious, fearless, and proud. There was significant interest from various clubs, but we were determined to build our future with Morgan at the heart of it.”
TEAMtalk has reported that Aston Villa is showing a “keen interest” in Gibbs-White, with a potential “significant offer” in the region of £65-70 million possibly tempting Forest to sell their talisman. This interest persists regardless of Forest’s battle against relegation. Unai Emery reportedly sees Gibbs-White as an “excellent fit” for his plans at Villa Park, while Tottenham Hotspur continues to admire the player.
Gibbs-White, who joined Forest from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2022, has been a key player for the Reds, amassing over 150 appearances. His influence will be crucial as Forest prepares to host his former club in a pivotal match on Wednesday night. Currently, Forest sits just three points above the relegation zone, a gap that could vanish if West Ham United secures a victory over Manchester United.
Despite the transfer rumors, Gibbs-White remains under contract with Nottingham Forest until 2028. His decision to stay was significantly influenced by the opportunity to play in the Europa League, a milestone he helped the club achieve. As the summer transfer window approaches, Forest fans will be eager to see if their club can retain one of its most influential players.
