Marco Silva
Fulham manager Marco Silva is eagerly anticipating the return of Premier League football to Craven Cottage as his team prepares to face Everton on Saturday. Silva’s side has been in impressive form at home, securing 10 points from their last four matches on their own turf. Ahead of the clash with Everton, Silva shared his thoughts on the significance of playing at Craven Cottage and the challenges posed by their upcoming opponents.
Marco Silva said: “Incredible, the feeling that we’re going to have tomorrow again. It’s a special place for us. We are creating the right environment, between ourselves, between players and fans, and all of us in the same place and going in the direction that we want to go. Any game is very demanding, very tough. You can take nothing as granted in this level that we are playing, always very tough opposition there, but we have to be able to respond in many different ways to the demands from the game. We have a plan, we know what we have to do. The other side is a very good side, too, that will try to block ourselves and not let us go in the direction that we want. But it’s been special, it’s a place where we feel very, very, very well, and tomorrow we have another chance to prove again our quality at home.”
Silva’s comments highlight the importance of Craven Cottage as a fortress for Fulham, where they have consistently performed well. The manager emphasized the need for his team to remain adaptable and resilient against tough Premier League opposition. Fulham’s upcoming match against Everton presents a challenging test, particularly given Everton’s strong away form.
Marco Silva continued: “You are right, their defensive record so far away from home has been very, very good. Showed many different things – showed the resilience that they have, the capacity they have in some moments, even without the ball, to control games as well. It’s not just because [of their defence] they achieved good results away from home, they have been difficult to beat. We know that they are strong in their moments in the game – set-pieces, long throws and all that stuff. And if we are resilient enough, and we show good defensive organisation like we have been showing, of course we can be closer to win a football match. The goals they conceded, they are a good example of [doing well] away from home, but we are at home, where we have been stronger as well. We expect a certain type of game, so let’s see what is going to happen or not, but we are aware of all the things. I knew clearly what you’re talking about, about the away goals conceded and all that stuff. We know that, we have been preparing ourselves for the game in the best way, and I’m really positive, first of all, knowing that it’s going to be a tough game, that we are going to respond in the way that we should after that down against Man United, a game that we didn’t deserve to lose.”
Everton’s impressive defensive record on the road, with only Arsenal and Aston Villa boasting more away victories, makes them formidable opponents. Silva acknowledged their resilience and ability to control games even without possession. However, he remains confident in Fulham’s capabilities, especially given their strong home performances. Silva’s focus is on maintaining defensive organization and capitalizing on their home advantage to secure a positive result against Everton.
