Oleksandr Zinchenko
Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Ukraine international, has officially parted ways with Arsenal, signing a short-term contract with Ajax until the summer. After spending the first half of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest, the 29-year-old left-back is set to make his debut for the Amsterdam club against AZ Alkmaar next weekend. Zinchenko’s departure marks the end of his three-and-a-half-year tenure at the Emirates Stadium, and he has taken to social media to express his gratitude to the Arsenal community.
Zinchenko said: “To the Gunners, still remember the goosebumps I got at the first game after hearing your ‘Always beliiiiiieeeve’. I couldn’t even dream about it. From the deepest place in my heart I would like to say a massive thank you for everything that you have done for me and my family. To the coaching staff, thank you for the opportunity to be a small part of this amazing club. To all the staff, thank you for your help and for looking after me and my family. And of course to the fans, for love, support and criticism which we as players need to accept and work even harder. I just want to wish you all the best and hope you achieve everything whatever you wish. Once a Gunner always a Gunner. Thank you. @arsenal [love heart emoji].”
Zinchenko’s final appearance for Arsenal came against Southampton on the last day of the previous season. He subsequently moved to Nottingham Forest on loan in September, after being left out of Arsenal’s squad for the first three Premier League matches of the 2025/26 season. With Myles Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori preferred at left-back, Zinchenko found himself seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Dyche said: “We have spoken to the player and made it clear in his situation. He is aware of that, so we will see what happens. We are being very open with him.”
Ajax’s director of football, Marijn Beuker, expressed enthusiasm over Zinchenko’s arrival, highlighting the player’s experience and tactical strength.
Marijn Beuker said: “With Oleksandr, we are bringing in an experienced player who gives us an immediate quality boost in the pursuit of Champions League football. As a left-back, he is tactically strong, provides defensive stability, and fits perfectly with our way of playing.”
Zinchenko’s move to Ajax is seen as a strategic addition to the Dutch club’s ambitions to secure Champions League qualification. His ability to contribute defensively and in build-up play is expected to be a significant asset. Meanwhile, Arsenal continues to thrive under Mikel Arteta, competing strongly in the Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup. The Gunners are focused on securing silverware this season, with fans eagerly anticipating further success.
