Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal delivered a commanding performance at Elland Road, securing a 4-0 victory over Leeds United in their Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon. The win propelled the Gunners to a seven-point lead over Manchester City, who are set to play Tottenham Hotspur in their game in hand. Goals from Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Jesus, and a Karl Darlow own goal ensured Mikel Arteta’s side bounced back from their recent defeat to Manchester United.
Paul Merson said: “There was a lot of pressure on them because I thought if they got beat, the scrutiny was going to increase. However, they have gone seven points clear again with a win at a really hard place to go in Elland Road. At times, it was like boys vs men. Arsenal just brushed them aside. They were A+. I can’t emphasise how good a result and performance it was. Elland Road was rocking but once Arsenal got into the game, they were dominant all over the pitch. The squad is just phenomenal. There were five players that came on in Martinelli, Eze, Odegaard, Jesus and Calafiori – what team don’t they get in? That was the game that won Arsenal the Premier League. Man City now have to go to Tottenham and win.”
Arsenal’s victory was not without its challenges, as they faced a setback before kick-off. Bukayo Saka, initially named in the starting line-up, was withdrawn due to an injury sustained during the warm-up. Mikel Arteta opted to bring Noni Madueke into the starting XI as a replacement. Arteta provided an update on Saka’s condition, expressing that the injury was a minor niggle and did not seem to be of major concern.
Mikel Arteta said: “So in the warm-up, he [Saka] had a little niggle.”
The Gunners’ performance at Elland Road showcased their depth and resilience, with contributions from key players and substitutes alike. The victory not only extended their lead at the top of the table but also sent a strong message to title rivals Manchester City. As Arsenal continue their pursuit of the Premier League title, the focus will now shift to maintaining their momentum and managing player fitness, especially with the recent injury concerns surrounding Saka.
