Douglas Luiz Aston Villa
Douglas Luiz is set to make a significant return to Aston Villa as the club grapples with a midfield injury crisis. Following an underwhelming stint at Juventus, where he started only three Serie A matches last season, Luiz joined Nottingham Forest on loan. Despite the challenges, Luiz is optimistic about recapturing his form as he prepares to rejoin Villa for their upcoming match against Brentford. The Brazilian midfielder’s return comes at a crucial time, with Villa’s midfield options severely limited due to injuries to key players Youri Tielemans, John McGinn, and Boubacar Kamara. Villa holds an option to make Luiz’s move permanent for €25 million, with potential add-ons for Juventus.
Douglas Luiz said: “For me, it’s so special to be here again. I had five great years in my career with this club. Everyone is very happy.”
Luiz added: “I had many opportunities with many clubs trying to get me, but when Aston Villa came to me, I said we didn’t need to listen to anyone else anymore. I’ve had one and a half years, which have been very difficult, after I left Aston Villa.”
He continued: “The last few nights I haven’t been able to sleep; I’ve gone to bed later and I woke up early. Today I woke up at five in the morning to do my scans and everything else.”
He concluded: “I am very excited to play at Villa Park again, it’s such a special stadium for me. I had many good memories with the fans and with this club, and I can’t wait to be back.”
Luiz’s enthusiasm for his return to Villa Park highlights his commitment to the club and his desire to contribute significantly to their success. His previous tenure at Villa was marked by strong performances, and he aims to replicate that form under the guidance of Unai Emery. The midfielder’s return is timely, given the current injury woes facing the team, and his experience and skill set are expected to bolster Villa’s midfield options. As the club navigates through this challenging period, Luiz’s presence could prove pivotal in their quest for success this season.
