Nottingham Forest continued their impressive Premier League form with a 2-0 victory over Brentford, marking their third consecutive unbeaten game. Goals from Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi secured the win, lifting the Reds five points clear of the relegation zone as they strive to maintain their top-flight status. Jesus scored his second Premier League goal with a skillful touch and finish in the first half, while Awoniyi, returning from a long injury layoff, netted for the first time in over a year.
Sean Dyche said: “Absolutely buzzing. He works hard for us and trained well in the last week. I had a chat with him – nothing heavy – and reminded him to be free. He looked free when he came on. He worked very hard and it was a very good finish. I’ve not gone too deeply with him (about the injury). That’s by the by. I certainly don’t keep reflecting back, I wasn’t here and I know what happened was very serious. It’s just talking to him generally. It’s not that easy – professional enjoyment I call it. I don’t mean go out there like running around in the playground, you have professional responsibility. I had no doubt about putting him on.”
Sean Dyche continued: “I’m pleased for Igor as well. He’s been knocking on the door (for a goal) and has been working very hard. He gets his reward with a good bit of play and a fine finish. We want everyone’s noses pointing in the right direction. We have reminded them of that after the game.”
The game also marked the first appearance of Italian forward Lorenzo Lucca, who joined Forest on loan from Napoli. His arrival seemed to rejuvenate the existing strikers, as noted by Dyche.
Sean Dyche remarked: “It’s the thing with football, you bring a striker in and then your strikers score. Sometimes that’s just the way it is. When you bring in the freshness of different players, it often kicks others into life. I don’t think they needed that, I must say.”
The victory over Brentford not only reinforces Forest’s position in the league but also highlights the effective management of Sean Dyche, who has been instrumental in steering the team away from the relegation zone. The contributions of Jesus and Awoniyi are particularly noteworthy, as both players have shown resilience and determination to overcome challenges and deliver crucial performances for the team. With the addition of Lucca, Forest’s attacking options have been bolstered, providing further optimism for their survival campaign.
