Sunderland academy forward Ethan Moore has secured a loan move to National League side Gateshead, marking a significant step in his career following a challenging period of injury rehabilitation. Moore, who has been part of Sunderland’s Under-21 setup, is eager to make his mark at Gateshead after overcoming a serious knee injury that sidelined him for over two years.
Ethan Moore said: “I am really happy to be here. I came in last week, did some bits with the lads, really enjoyed it, and I think it’s a really good standard. I am really looking forward to it. It’s what I need most at the minute, getting that run of games under my belt, it gives me much more confidence to produce what I can.”
Moore’s journey has been one of resilience and determination. After showing promise by scoring a goal and providing two assists in a high-scoring match against Middlesbrough in January 2023, his progress was halted by a knee injury. This setback required an extensive recovery process, but now Moore is ready to embrace the opportunity at Gateshead with renewed vigor.
Ethan Moore continued: “Rob spoke to me, he thinks I have good traits that will really help the team. Pace, power, he thinks I can bring that to the team and that might be what they are lacking at the minute. It’s a really good challenge for myself playing against older lads who have much more experience and I think with the lads in the changing room, it will give me a big boost and it will help me out a lot.”
Moore’s debut for Gateshead will be slightly delayed due to a postponed match against Wealdstone and an FA Trophy defeat against Morecambe, leaving the team without a game next weekend. Consequently, Moore is set to make his senior debut when Gateshead hosts Braintree Town at the International Stadium in two weeks’ time. The young forward is keen to adapt to his new environment and learn from his more experienced teammates.
Ethan Moore added: “I can’t wait, I love playing football, it’s what I’ve always wanted to do so I think going out there will be good for me. Trying to understand how the lads play, what other players want, how they want to receive the ball and how they will give me the ball is what we will bring into the game.”
Moore’s loan move to Gateshead represents a fresh start and a chance to gain valuable playing time and confidence. His attributes of pace and power are expected to complement the team well, and he is determined to make a positive impact during his time at the club.
