Burnley is grappling with an injury setback as Mike Tresor is expected to be out for several weeks due to an ankle injury. Initially perceived as a minor issue, the injury has turned out to be more significant, delaying Tresor’s return to the field. This development comes as Burnley prepares for their upcoming Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
Scott Parker said: “I don’t really want to put a time scale [on things], but it’ll be a number of weeks. It’s not something that needs surgery and we’ve gone another route here because there’s an ankle issue, but the ankle’s stable, so it’s not something that needs surgery. He’s gone through a procedure now where he’s had a couple of injections and we’re hoping [it won’t be too long], but it’ll still be a number of weeks.”
The timing of Tresor’s injury is particularly frustrating, as he had recently re-established himself in Burnley’s squad after a challenging period. The Belgian midfielder had made four appearances within two weeks during the Christmas period, marking a significant return to form.
Parker added: “Yeah, so frustrating. Really frustrating. It’s been a long, long road for Mikey for many, many reasons. Partly, you know, Mikey can be accountable for. We’ve seen his quality. He’s edging closer to maybe starting games. But he’s been hit with this injury, which is not ideal, of course not. But it’s football sometimes and it’s professional sport. But yeah, it’ll be alright. We’ll get him back through this.”
In more positive news for Burnley, Joe Worrall is nearing a return and could feature against Liverpool. The centre-back has been absent since his last appearance at Bournemouth. However, Zian Flemming remains unavailable and is expected to return for the game against Tottenham.
Parker said: “Joe’s close. He’s been on the grass now so we’ll make a call on him leading after tomorrow’s session, but he’s close. Zian not so, Zian won’t make the weekend. Zian will probably be back next game [Tottenham at home]. He’s still not probably at 100 per cent in terms of his general well-being, but he’s been back training with us. So again, we’ll see how that progresses probably tomorrow and we’ll make a call on that.”
Meanwhile, Burnley continues to manage longer-term injury concerns with players such as Jordan Beyer, Connor Roberts, Josh Cullen, and Zeki Amdouni. These ongoing issues highlight the challenges Burnley faces in maintaining squad depth and fitness as they navigate the demanding Premier League season.
