Chelsea’s head coach Liam Rosenior is gearing up for his first major challenge since taking over, as his team prepares to face Arsenal. After a triumphant 5-1 victory against Charlton, Rosenior is now focused on maintaining momentum against a formidable opponent. However, the Blues are facing an injury crisis, with several key players potentially missing the upcoming clash.
Liam Rosenior said: “We’ve been working tactically on Arsenal from the moment I came into the club. We know what an important game it is. We’ve watched all of their games, analysed every aspect of their game, including set-plays, which they’re very good at. Yes, there’s a lot you can affect. We talk about systems and tactics. What I was very happy with, after being for two days, I saw an attitude in the team against Charlton that I really, really liked in terms of our energy, in terms of our intensity to press, in terms of winning duels. You’re going to need that against a very, very good team on Wednesday night.”
The fitness of Cole Palmer, Reece James, and Malo Gusto remains uncertain, as all three players are set to undergo late fitness tests following injuries sustained during Chelsea’s recent defeat to Fulham. Their absence from training at Cobham has raised concerns about their availability for the Arsenal fixture. Additionally, the Blues are without Levi Colwill, who is recovering from a knee injury. The 22-year-old defender suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during pre-season training and is currently on a rehabilitation programme.
Meanwhile, Mykhailo Mudryk’s situation adds another layer of complexity. Mudryk, who was officially charged in June 2025, is still awaiting a disciplinary decision from the Football Association of England. The case’s outcome remains uncertain, with the World Anti-Doping Agency president, Witold Banka, indicating the possibility of an appeal depending on the decision’s severity.
Chelsea’s preparation for the Arsenal match is undoubtedly challenging, with the team needing to adapt to potential absences and ongoing off-field issues. Rosenior’s tactical acumen and the team’s resilience will be crucial as they aim to secure a positive result against a strong Arsenal side.
