Daniel Farke
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke faces a tactical challenge as he navigates a defensive reshuffle following a minor injury to Sebastiaan Bornauw during a recent match. With Joe Rodon rested for the upcoming FA Cup clash against Derby County, Farke had to adapt his defensive lineup, placing James Justin in the right centre-half position. This situation has prompted questions about potential transfer market activity to bolster the team’s defensive options.
Daniel Farke said: “It’s always good to have options. Even today, with Pascal Struijk on the bench, also Sam Byram could play there. Seb Bornauw was playing a bit more like a full back in the first half. It was always in my head that I would bring perhaps a natural full-back on at half-time. With James Justin today, we are flexible. So of course, we won’t fall asleep till the end of the window. But I’m happy with my group. So we have a good group. We have made sure that we’re on a good path on Premier League level. So far, we have made sure that we are good enough to progress here and to the next round. And for that, we’ve shown that we are capable as a group, and gives lots of confidence.”
Farke further elaborated on Bornauw’s condition, stating that the defender experienced discomfort in the first 20 minutes of the match and signaled to be substituted before halftime. Fortunately, Farke does not believe the injury is severe.
Farke said: “I think it’s something with his hip flexor or adductor, so we have to assess it. I don’t think it’s a major thing that he’s out for weeks. We have to assess him right now. Thank God we have a little break of six days right now, at least.”
The injury to Bornauw and the absence of Rodon highlighted the importance of depth in the centre-back position. Farke’s comments suggest a pragmatic approach to the transfer window, emphasizing flexibility within the current squad while remaining open to potential reinforcements. The manager’s confidence in his team’s ability to adapt and progress in the Premier League is evident, as he balances immediate tactical needs with long-term strategic planning.
Leeds United will now focus on recovery and preparation during their brief break before facing Derby County in the FA Cup. The team will aim to capitalize on this period to ensure players are fit and ready for the challenges ahead.
