Burnley is preparing for their FA Cup third-round clash against Millwall with a heavily rotated squad, as manager Scott Parker plans to give some of his players a much-needed rest. The Clarets are taking a brief hiatus from their Premier League challenges to face the Championship contenders, who are currently performing well in the league.
Scott Parker said: “For sure we’re freshening up at the weekend. We’re definitely freshening up. We need to, just for the sheer volume of games that we’ve had in this short period. I think some players may need a little rest as well to freshen up and give other players the opportunity, so this weekend we’ll definitely be looking to change things around a little bit.”
Parker’s strategy for squad rotation is influenced by the demanding schedule Burnley has faced recently. Last year, he made ten changes for the third-round tie against Reading, but this time, he acknowledges the limitations due to player absences.
Scott Parker added: “No, we probably haven’t. In an ideal world, we’d like to have a real fully fit squad here that you could really change things around, but that’s not the case this time. But with Burnley without a win in 12 games, this cup tie still presents Parker with a big chance to put that record right. He said: “We’re going into this game and I’m going into this game and we’re going in there fully prepared, like we always do. No shortcuts in this. That’s exactly the aim and to go through to the next round.”
Despite the challenges, Parker remains optimistic about the opportunity the FA Cup presents to improve Burnley’s current form. The team has been winless in their last 12 matches, and this fixture offers a chance to turn things around. However, facing Millwall, who are enjoying a strong season in the Championship, will not be straightforward.
Scott Parker commented: “I expect a really, really strong game. I have huge respect for Alex and the job he’s done at various clubs. They’re having a very good season as well. Tough, tough opposition for us but we’ll be fully prepared for the battle and the stresses that they’re going to pose on us, really.”
Burnley will need to be at their best to overcome Millwall, who are currently sitting in fifth place in the Championship. The match promises to be a challenging encounter, but Parker’s preparation and strategic squad rotation could provide the edge needed to advance to the next round of the FA Cup.
