Nottingham Forest is gearing up for a pivotal January transfer window as they face the potential departure of forward Arnaud Kalimuendo. Reports from Germany indicate that the club is set to receive a €1.5 million (£1.3m) loan fee for Kalimuendo, with a €27 million (£23m) option to buy included in the deal. This move could leave manager Sean Dyche with limited attacking options, especially with Chris Wood sidelined and uncertainty surrounding Taiwo Awoniyi’s future. However, Dyche has assured fans that the club is actively pursuing new signings to bolster the squad.
Sean Dyche said: “When I got here, the trading model and the nature of the club was made clear. We’re waiting on that situation. We’re obviously into other situations, I would hope that’s apparent. I have made it clear and the owner (Evangelos Marinakis) has made it clear to me he will support the situation.”
Dyche continued: “You can be as optimistic as you want, but until the pen is on the paper and it is done then you never know. But there is certainly ongoing conversations about the situations, that’s for sure. The club have been very open with me and my staff. I don’t know how it’s been previously but they have spoken to us about what we think.”
He added: “We’ve had meetings with the scouting units and the analysis units to talk about players, and that has been ongoing for the last couple of months.”
The potential exit of Kalimuendo comes after a busy summer for Nottingham Forest, where they spent over £180 million on 13 new signings. Despite the substantial summer outlay, Dyche is keen to ensure that any new additions this January are the right fit for the team. The manager has emphasized the importance of making strategic signings rather than rushing into deals.
Forest’s management, including owner Evangelos Marinakis, has expressed support for Dyche’s plans, highlighting a collaborative approach between the club’s leadership and the coaching staff. The club’s openness in discussing transfer strategies with Dyche and his staff reflects a unified effort to strengthen the squad effectively.
As the January transfer window progresses, Nottingham Forest will be closely monitoring potential targets to fill the void left by Kalimuendo’s departure. With the Premier League season in full swing, Dyche and his team are focused on making calculated moves to enhance their chances of success in the league.
