Mykhailo Mudryk
Mykhailo Mudryk, a Chelsea player, is currently embroiled in an ongoing doping investigation, which has seen him sidelined from action for over a year. Despite no longer having a designated squad number, Mudryk remains a part of the Chelsea squad as the Football Association (FA) continues its case against him for alleged anti-doping rule violations. The situation stems from an “adverse finding in a routine urine test” conducted in December 2024, which led to his suspension.
Mykhailo Mudryk said: “I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance. I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.”
Mudryk also added on Instagram: “Happy New Year to all my fans. I just wanted to say thank you for your support. I see all your messages and truly appreciate them, so please don’t give up on me as I [have] not give up on myself. Both the Club and Mykhailo fully support The FA’s testing programme and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested.”
Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s now-former head coach, stated: “I spoke with Misha in Poland when we played the Conference League final. I haven’t spoken with him since then. There’s nothing more I can add because I don’t have more information. Misha is a Chelsea player. Until he is not, I will trust – and that goes for all the players.”
The FA charged Mudryk last summer, alleging the “presence and/or use of a prohibited substance.” Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Mudryk has maintained his innocence, asserting that he has never knowingly used any banned substances. Chelsea and Mudryk are working with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the adverse finding.
Mudryk’s situation is further complicated by the fact that he recently celebrated his birthday, sharing a post on social media with the caption “25,” which was liked by several of his teammates, including Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell, and Moises Caicedo. The support from his peers highlights the camaraderie within the team, even as Mudryk faces this challenging period.
The case remains unresolved, with the FA’s investigation ongoing for over six months. Both Mudryk and Chelsea have expressed their commitment to cooperating fully with the FA’s testing programme, aiming to resolve the matter and see Mudryk return to the pitch.
