After leaving Spurs seven years ago in what was then the most expensive transfer in history, Gareth Bale has returned to north London on a season-long loan from Real Madrid. Upon his return, the Welsh flyer, who made his name at Spurs having signed from Southampton as a young prospect, spoke about what it feels to be back at a “special” club.
Gareth Bale said “It’s nice to be back, it’s such a special club to me, where I made my name, what an amazing club, amazing fans, it’s incredible to be back, and hopefully I can get some match fitness, get back under way and really help the team and hopefully win trophies, I think it’s such a special club, I always thought when I did leave one day I would love to come back and the opportunity has arisen, it’s a good time for me, I’m hungry, motivated and can’t wait to get started. I think by going to Madrid, winning trophies, I feel like I have that winning mentality, how to win trophies, in those situations in finals, dealing with nerves, pressure, that all goes with experience, hopefully I can bring that to the dressing room and bring a bit more belief to everybody that we can win a trophy and the target is to do that, not just one, but on all fronts. Winning trophies is such an important thing for this club, it’s what we all want to do and to be doing it at Tottenham now would be a dream come true.”
