David Moyes has slammed poor refereeing in their loss to Arsenal. The West Ham manager thought there should have been a penalty to his side when Arsenal defender Gabriel handled the ball and he compared that incident with the penalty Crystal Palace got against Manchester United earlier in the day when Victor Lindelof handled the ball in the penalty area. The result meant that West Ham had lost both of their opening matches. This was also Moyes’ 20th trip to Arsenal and he had failed to win any of them.
David Moyes said “Thanks for the reminder. Yes we should have won, or at worst got a point from it. Things didn’t go for us and we turned off at the last minute which unfortunately cost us. What do you think? you see, we thought that it was [a penalty]. A massively improved performance from last week. We made chances, we played well, we played as good as we could but ultimately, we are playing a form team, we are aware of that but I am disappointed that we have not come away with some points tonight. We should have had three. We are all really disappointed because we feel that our performance was good. We feel we were let down once again by decisions, very fine margins on the first goal and then the handball. On Saturday we had one not given as well and tonight was much the same. We aren’t using it as an excuse.”
