Brighton
Madison Haley, a forward for Brighton in the Women’s Super League (WSL), has been a key player in the team’s recent victories. Despite her preference to play as a No.9, Haley has demonstrated her adaptability on the field, contributing significantly to Brighton’s success. Her father, Charles Haley, a legendary American football player, often tunes in from Texas to watch her matches, albeit sometimes at unconventional hours due to the time difference.
Madison Haley said: “My dad will be gutted if he missed it, but he always watches them back and gives me his feedback.” She added, “Mentally it was really tough but it was nice to have such amazing team-mates who were there to support me. Of course, during periods away there is a lot of time for self-reflection and a lot of thinking. For me, the biggest thing is I really value that training time. If I have that consistency of training, then I know what I can do.”
Dario Vidosic said: “We want to get her in and around the box. We want to get players in these sorts of positions as much as possible, where they can be dangerous, where they can showcase their talents, and score goals, which will inevitably help us win games. But she has got many different traits that are really good. I think she operates well in those pockets where she can receive.”
Despite Haley’s preference for playing as a central striker, Brighton’s manager Dario Vidosic has utilized her versatility to great effect. Haley has played off Kiko Seike in recent matches, stepping up in the absence of key players like Carla Camacho, Fran Kirby, and Michelle Agyemang. This tactical flexibility has paid off, with Haley assisting Seike for a crucial goal in an impressive win against London City.
Haley’s ability to adapt to different roles on the pitch has been a testament to her skill and professionalism. While she misses playing as a No.9, she acknowledges the importance of fulfilling the team’s needs to secure victories. Her contributions have been pivotal in Brighton’s back-to-back wins, with Seike scoring twice in these matches.
The support from her teammates and her father’s encouragement have been instrumental in Haley’s journey. As a football family, the Haleys understand the significance of teamwork and adaptability, traits that Madison embodies on and off the field.
As the WSL season progresses, Brighton will look to continue their winning streak, with Haley’s versatility and talent playing a crucial role in their campaign. Her father’s legacy in American football may be well-known, but Madison Haley is carving out her own path as a rising star in the WSL.
