Burnley manager Scott Parker is set to lead his team against Newcastle United this Saturday in the Premier League. Despite a challenging return to the top flight, with Burnley currently sitting second bottom and enduring five consecutive losses, Parker remains optimistic about his position and the team’s future. His confidence stems from a strong relationship with Burnley chairman Alan Pace, who has expressed no concerns over Parker’s role.
Scott Parker said: “There are no concerns [from the chairman] at the moment. I was speaking to Alan today, so my relationship with Alan is rock solid. I have a real open, honest, and realistic relationship really, so regarding my position in that sense, I have absolutely no worries whatsoever. That makes my job easier, for sure. That keeps my focus where it needs to be, so regarding Alan, that’s been a constant since I’ve been here and it remains consistent now. [There were] no assurances, it was really just normal conversations. I’m constantly in conversation with Alan. I speak to him after the games and he was in today, so it was just a general chat, just general stuff, family and other bits as well.”
Parker, a former Newcastle United midfielder, acknowledges the tough challenge his team faces at St James’ Park. However, he is determined to approach the game with a proactive mindset, aiming to challenge Newcastle despite their strong form under manager Eddie Howe.
Scott Parker added: “It’s a tough game, certainly away from home against a very, very good side. Eddie’s done a fantastic job there, but as always we bounce back. We’re trying to put our best foot forward in this situation, but we’re playing against a very good side. But hopefully we can cause them problems as well.”
The match will also see the return of Martin Dubravka to Tyneside. The Slovakian goalkeeper, who joined Burnley in the summer after a long stint with Newcastle, is expected to bring valuable experience to the Clarets’ lineup. Parker praised Dubravka’s influence on the team, highlighting his leadership and experience as crucial assets.
Scott Parker said: “Well, I think he’s quality, which you’ve seen. Fundamentally, he’s brought a wealth of experience in these moments, so that experience has been invaluable for me. It’s just another one who’s seen it, done it, and got the t-shirt a little bit, so he can guide, he can advise, he can support, and he can drive with this young group, so he’s been a big voice in that.”
As Burnley prepares for this significant fixture, Parker’s focus remains on fostering resilience and determination within his squad. The manager’s confidence in his relationship with the club’s leadership and the experienced players at his disposal could prove vital as they seek to turn their season around.
