Nottingham Forest is grappling with a series of injury challenges as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Everton. Head coach Sean Dyche remains optimistic about the recovery of several players, although the team is still dealing with the absence of key figures.
Sean Dyche said: “I’ve got a list here. Woody is making a bit of progress but it is still early days yet. Taiwo is on the grass and doing well. Douglas Luiz is close to getting back to training with us. Angus Gunn is a bit delayed with his but is getting better. Dilane Bakwa had 60 minutes with the B Team, which is good. He came through unscathed but it is a case of gently, gently as he gets match fit. Zinchenko is on the grass and is doing fine. He is on his way back. Ola is still a bit of time yet. Aaron Bott, the young goalkeeper, is recovering. Murillo was touch and go with his hamstring, then he has been ill since. We are just monitoring him daily and are hoping he recovers quickly.”
The injury list for Forest includes Chris Wood (knee), Douglas Luiz (hamstring), Angus Gunn (knee), Oleksandr Zinchenko (groin), Taiwo Awoniyi (unknown), Ola Aina (hamstring), and young goalkeeper Aaron Bott (unknown). Dyche is cautious about rushing players back into action, emphasizing a gradual return to fitness. Wood, who has been out since mid-October, is being carefully managed without a specific timeline for his return.
Dyche added: “We are not putting any timescale on it. It is slowly, slowly and carefully, carefully. But he is making some progress. We are just starting him back on the real pathway after a rest period of settling things down. We are hopeful it is going in the right direction, but it is very early yet.”
Despite the injury woes, Nottingham Forest managed to secure a victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Igor Jesus scoring the decisive goal. Morgan Gibbs-White, who has been dealing with a stiff back, was substituted late in the game. Dyche is confident that Gibbs-White will recover soon, although he acknowledges the toll of frequent matches on the squad.
Dyche commented: “I think he’s alright. We’ve got a few knocks at the minute; we are playing a lot of games and a few of the guys have been playing a lot of football. Morgan is one of them. We have got a few knocks, more than anything. I don’t think it’s anything serious.”
As Forest prepares to face Everton, the focus remains on managing player fitness and ensuring a competitive lineup for the match at Merseyside.
