Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal’s injury woes continued to mount as Mikel Arteta faced the prospect of replacing Cristhian Mosquera following his withdrawal due to an injury during the recent victory over Brentford. The Gunners, who suffered significant absences last season that hindered their Premier League title and Champions League ambitions, have made strides in strengthening their squad. However, recent injuries to key players have presented fresh challenges for Arteta, particularly in defense.
Mikel Arteta said: “We have to wait and see. It’s probably the knee or ankle. We don’t know. Speaking before the Brentford game, the manager said his return was a ‘matter of days,’ hinting at a possible return against Aston Villa. If Saliba is out, however, then that means both first-choice centre-backs will be missing, along with Mosquera, meaning another option will have to pair with Piero Hincapie at the back.”
Arteta added: “It’s probably not one thing, but we can help the players and everybody in the league and everybody to do what we have to do, give it another day. Especially the teams that are playing so much in Europe. To everybody in general, I think we can do that because we’re going to benefit from that. So we need to try to do that, please. But we have to try to do that when we can.”
The recent injuries to Declan Rice and Cristhian Mosquera have raised concerns for Arsenal, particularly in defense. While the midfield remains well-stocked to cover for Rice, Mosquera’s potential absence could further deplete Arteta’s defensive options. Jurrien Timber, who stepped in during the Brentford match, is expected to continue in the center-back role, a position he is familiar with from his national team duties alongside Virgil van Dijk. This adjustment may also see Ben White reprising his role at right-back, although he has shown strong form on the flank.
Arsenal’s depth has improved, allowing them to manage these injury setbacks better than in previous seasons. However, the congested fixture schedule, particularly for teams competing in Europe, remains a concern for Arteta. The Gunners face a formidable Aston Villa side, currently third in the Premier League, in their upcoming clash. A quick recovery and tactical adjustments will be crucial for Arsenal as they aim to maintain momentum in the league.
