Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update ahead of the club’s Premier League match against Newcastle United, revealing that several key players are set to miss the game. The Gunners are also preparing for a Carabao Cup tie with Stoke City, but the focus remains on their league commitments, where they are facing a challenging period due to injuries.
Mikel Arteta said: “Yeah, he’s going to be out for a few weeks. We don’t really know yet, probably we’re going to have to do a scan next week again. When asked if the injury would keep him out for weeks, rather than months, the Gunners boss said: “We hope so. We have to again assess him in the next few days how he goes. There’s been a change of load and he didn’t really have a pre-season after the injury. We’ll have to see in the next week or so how he is.”
Arteta continued: “Well, with Kai we know that it will be months with him. I don’t know if he can be weeks. You never know because this is Kai and he’s a different specimen. He’s progressing and we really miss him. Hopefully he’ll be back and back for the long term as well, which is very important to look at suddenly. So far he’s progressing really well.”
He added: “It’s a very unfortunate incident with Kai. Something similar with Ben White, it was similar. With Martin Odegaard, it has been very similar because he damaged his shoulder twice doing the same action on the floor, which is very unlikely to happen. With Bukayo, it was more a muscular injury with the hamstring. Maybe something to look at more in-depth, and we absolutely did that. Try to keep that as low as possible. That’s what we are trying to do.”
The injury list for Arsenal is growing, with Noni Madueke confirmed to miss the upcoming match against Newcastle United after sustaining an injury during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City. The England international was substituted at half-time, raising concerns about a potential long-term absence. Arteta’s comments suggest that while Madueke’s injury is serious, the club hopes it will not sideline him for months.
Kai Havertz is another significant absentee, with Arteta indicating that the German international could be out for several months. The manager expressed hope for Havertz’s long-term recovery, emphasizing his unique physical attributes and progress in rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus are also expected to miss the clash against Newcastle, with Odegaard dealing with a recurring shoulder issue and Jesus recovering from a knee injury.
The situation presents a challenging scenario for Arteta as he navigates the absence of key players. The manager’s focus remains on managing the squad’s fitness and ensuring a swift recovery for those sidelined. Arsenal’s depth will be tested in the coming weeks as they aim to maintain momentum in both domestic and cup competitions.
