Manchester United’s interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba has been a topic of discussion since the summer transfer window. Despite United’s attempts to secure the young midfielder, a deal could not be reached due to Brighton’s high valuation, reportedly similar to the £115 million they received for Moises Caicedo in 2023. As the January transfer window approaches, United’s interest remains, with a potential move still on the table.
Fabian Hurzeler said: “Everyone has to understand with Carlos, he’s a very young player. He’s not a machine. He needs help from us. He tried everything today; he only had 45 minutes in his body, and it’s something that we have to accept.” He added: “For sure, when a young boy reads that there’s interest from Manchester United with a big, big offer, it might affect him deep. Even if he’s not saying; ‘It affects me’, maybe deep inside of him, there is something that affects him. And that’s something we have to keep on working with him and so, therefore, I can’t give you a clear answer if it’s really affected him or not.”
Fabrizio Romano said: “The last performance of Baleba for Brighton against Tottenham was a really poor one. It was not at the level of a player like Baleba. After the game, Fabian Hurzeler was very honest and credit to him because managers sometimes say nothing and move on. That’s probably the case because Baleba wanted to move to Man United and he was keen on the move. He’s always been very respectful to Brighton and never forced the move. The problem was only about Brighton and Man United. Brighton never wanted to negotiate the price and they always wanted to keep the player.”
Baleba’s recent performances have been under scrutiny, particularly after being substituted at half-time during Brighton’s match against Tottenham. This has fueled speculation about how United’s interest might be impacting his form. Hurzeler’s comments highlight the challenges young players face when linked with high-profile transfers, emphasizing the need for support and understanding from the club.
Despite the failed summer negotiations, United’s interest in Baleba persists, with manager Ruben Amorim’s admiration for the Cameroon international potentially playing a crucial role in any future dealings. While Brighton remains firm on their stance, a January move could still materialize if conditions align.
As the Premier League season progresses, Manchester United fans will be keenly watching Baleba’s development and any updates on this potential transfer. With the January window approaching, the situation remains dynamic, and United’s pursuit of Baleba continues to be a storyline to watch.
