ange Postecoglou
Ange Postecoglou is navigating familiar territory as he faces mounting pressure to secure his first victory with Nottingham Forest. The newly-appointed head coach has endured a challenging start, with the Reds losing their opening two matches under his leadership. After a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal and a 3-2 loss to Swansea City in the Carabao Cup, the upcoming Premier League fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor has become crucial for Postecoglou and his team.
Ange Postecoglou said: “There has been a negativity around my arrival since I came to the Premier League. It is the constant space I am in. But it is not about me. It is important that we win on Saturday. Not for me. But because we have lost the last two games in the Premier League. Every game in the Premier League is tough and you never want to be in a position where you have not won, because then you can start chasing the game a little bit.”
Postecoglou continued: “You can’t assess these things before you make a decision, but I knew what I was heading into with four away games on the trot – and challenging ones at that. But you also know it’s a great opportunity to embed some principles. Irrespective of the schedule we had, what was key for me was that we try to implement everything we want to implement but not forsaking the most important thing, which is getting results in our games. The season has already started, so it’s not like we have time to build this. That’s the challenge, but I love that. It’s exciting. Certainly, it’s pushing me and pushing the coaches. It’s pushing the players for us to gel as quickly as possible and make sure we get some positive results.”
Postecoglou’s tenure at Nottingham Forest has begun under a cloud of skepticism, a situation he is no stranger to, given his previous experiences in management. The Reds’ inability to secure a win in their first two matches has intensified the scrutiny on the Australian manager. The fixture against Burnley represents the third of four consecutive away games, a daunting schedule that has added to the challenges faced by Postecoglou.
Despite the tough start, Postecoglou remains focused on embedding his footballing philosophy while acknowledging the immediate need for results. The manager is keenly aware that the Premier League’s competitive nature leaves little room for error, and a victory at Burnley would be a significant step in building confidence within the squad.
As the team prepares for the clash at Turf Moor, a late decision will be made regarding the fitness of defender Murillo, which could impact the lineup. Postecoglou’s tactical decisions and the team’s performance against Burnley will be closely watched as Nottingham Forest aim to turn their fortunes around.
