Alexander Isak

Newcastle United is currently navigating a challenging situation as news emerges of Alexander Isak training alone. The Swedish striker’s absence from the club’s pre-season tour in Singapore and Seoul has sparked concerns, especially given Newcastle’s struggles in front of goal and the lack of a senior centre-forward. Former Republic of Ireland star Shay Given, serving as a club ambassador on the tour, has expressed his views on the matter.
Shay Given said: “It is a big story – he’s a big player. Eddie spoke well about Alex at the Press conference, he gave his honest opinion about the situation. I don’t think it is a definite either way whether he leaves or he stays. I think when you have a player of that calibre there is going to be noise around. From a Newcastle point of view, I hope he stays and plays next season in the Champions League for Newcastle.”
Given added: “But it is not ideal that he is not here, obviously he has an injury but still it would have been nice to see him on this trip. But he’s not here, so we just have to get on with the trip. I can’t add much more than that. It is big news around the world, on every back page and on every radio station. It’s a massive back page story because he is such a star player.”
Isak’s absence has been particularly noticeable during merchandise events in Singapore and Seoul, where his number 14 shirt was missing from the customization desks. Despite this, Given emphasized the importance of Newcastle’s presence in the Far East, highlighting the club’s efforts to expand its global brand and engage with fans.
Given said: “This is why clubs go far and wide in pre-season, for events like this, fans getting the chance to meet players or ex-players like me and Shola Ameobi. But it is also spreading the word of Newcastle as well. It’s where the club want to go now, the Premier League is a global brand and it is important that Newcastle are getting that global brand across the world. That is why we are here.”
As the team continues its pre-season preparations, the focus remains on building fitness levels and impressing manager Eddie Howe. The players are keenly aware of the upcoming challenge against Aston Villa, with the pre-season tour serving as a critical opportunity to make their mark.
