Ruben Amorim
Manchester United is actively seeking to bolster their attacking options following a lackluster season, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to make a significant impact on the scoresheet. While top-tier strikers like Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen may be beyond their reach, United is exploring more attainable options to enhance their goal-scoring prowess.
Steady Irwin said: “We are stronger, and have more goal potential in us, with less games, but we need a striker. I like Mateta because his strengths are Hojlund’s weaknesses. Either holds up the ball very well or knows when and how to position themselves in the box to score. We should avoid getting strikers whose abilities are unclear. We have too many strikers like Zirkzee and Hojlund who aren’t excellent at any part of their game.”

1968red commented: “Watkins in a swap with Garnacho would be better than a Mason Mount-type situation again with Chelsea, and monetarily better for us.”
Deanodo expressed: “No to Jackson, we don’t want any Chelsea rejects. If they’re not good enough for Chelsea, why would we want them?”
Cdpc stated: “Personally I’d prioritize a dynamic box-to-box midfielder over a striker this year. I think for too long we’ve been overrun in midfield and had no interplay between the top 3. Everyone’s down on our current striker options, but if we’re fair, they’ve had terrible service over the past couple of years.”
IlSacristano added: “Ollie Watkins IMHO. A good striker who enjoys his game with a big smile. I think he’s got a good few years in the tank.”
United has reportedly shown interest in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who has impressed under Unai Emery’s management. However, the presence of Marcus Rashford on loan reportedly limited Watkins’ opportunities last season. Watkins, valued at £60 million, has three years left on his contract, making him a viable target for United. Another potential acquisition is Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace, who has had a solid run with the FA Cup winners. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson could also be an option, though his recent signing of former United target Liam Delap may affect his standing at the club.
The fanbase appears divided on the best course of action, with some advocating for a focus on midfield reinforcements rather than a new striker. This sentiment reflects a broader concern about the team’s overall balance and service to the strikers. As United navigates the transfer market, the club must weigh these considerations carefully to ensure a successful campaign moving forward.
