Zach Abbott
Nottingham Forest have confirmed that promising defender Zach Abbott has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2029. This new deal comes as a reward for Abbott’s impressive performances during the 2024/25 season, marking another milestone in his burgeoning career at the City Ground. The 19-year-old made his first senior start for Forest just last year in a Carabao Cup match against Newcastle United and later showcased his talents in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley.
Zach Abbott said: “It’s something you dream of as a kid, making steps in the game, and I’m glad I’m continuing the journey at this club. All I can say is thank you to everyone involved that has helped me on this journey. Forest is all I’ve known. It’s been my life every day, even when I was young and in school my parents would take me to training in the evenings. Hopefully it’ll be for many more years and we can achieve more together.”
Chief football officer Ross Wilson said: “We have a proud history of seeing players from our academy graduate into the first-team set-up, and Zach continues to handle that transition impressively. His semi-final performance at Wembley was a result of his hard work and professionalism from the moment he joined Nuno’s group. He continues to be guided by his teammates and the fantastic staff at the club, and his desire to improve as a player and person will serve him well for the future. Having been a part of Nuno’s squad for the duration of the campaign, Abbott also made a big impact for Warren Joyce’s B Team, scoring the winning penalty in the Premier League International Cup final against Lyon at the City Ground.”
Abbott’s journey with Nottingham Forest began when he joined the club’s academy as an 11-year-old. His development through the ranks has been a testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent. The new contract not only secures Abbott’s future at Forest but also highlights the club’s strategy of retaining key players, following recent agreements with striker Chris Wood, centre-back Murillo, and full-backs Ola Aina and Neco Williams.
Currently, Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad is in Portugal for a pre-season training camp, preparing for the upcoming 2025/26 Premier League campaign. With less than a month to go before the season kicks off, Abbott’s new deal adds stability and optimism for Forest as they aim to build on last season’s achievements. The club and its supporters will be eager to see how Abbott and his teammates perform in the upcoming season.
