Matz Sels
Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeper Matz Sels has emphasized the need to “start again from zero” as the new Premier League season approaches. Despite the Reds’ remarkable performance last season, finishing seventh and securing a spot in European competition, Sels insists that past achievements will not influence the upcoming campaign. His focus is on maintaining high standards and contributing to the team’s success in the new season.
Matz Sels said: “I was really happy,” he said, reflecting on his Golden Glove award which he shared with Arsenal’s David Raya. “It’s an individual prize, but of course you cannot win this all alone, so it was a great team effort. After the season, it was really nice and I started to realise that it was a big trophy to win, but now it’s a new season. We start again from zero and I will try to do everything I can to help the team, and to give 100 percent for the supporters and for everyone who loves Nottingham Forest.”
Sels added: “I’m really happy. We had an amazing season last year and I was one small part of that, so I’m really happy to sign a new contract. Hopefully we can continue together and have some great moments again this season. I’m looking forward to playing in Europe because it’s really something special. Playing in this stadium and playing in big games in the Premier League is also really special.”
Ross Wilson, Chief Football Officer, said: “Matz is an experienced goalkeeper who has been consistently performing at a high level for a number of years. He made a big impact on the team last season and is an important part of our group. He has earned the new deal, and we’re excited to see how he keeps improving and helping the team moving forward.”
Sels’ comments highlight his commitment to Nottingham Forest and his determination to build on last season’s success. His new contract is a testament to his value to the team, both for his individual accolades and his contribution to the collective effort. The goalkeeper’s anticipation of playing in European competitions underscores the club’s growth and ambition. As the new season looms, Nottingham Forest fans will be eager to see if the team can replicate or even surpass their previous achievements. The club’s leadership, including Ross Wilson, clearly sees Sels as a pivotal figure in this journey, reflecting confidence in his abilities and potential to lead the team to further success.
