Alexander Isak
Reports have surfaced this week suggesting that Liverpool has shown interest in Newcastle United’s striker Alexander Isak. While Liverpool has been linked with Isak, they are currently focusing on a move for Hugo Ekitike, having opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt and agreed on personal terms with the player. Meanwhile, Isak was notably absent from Newcastle’s squad during their 4-0 defeat to Celtic, prompting speculation about his future.
Eddie Howe said: “It was my decision. I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him. The last thing he wanted is to be sat in the stand watching, that wasn’t fair to him.” Howe further elaborated on the situation, stating, “Both players are fit, but we just felt they were not ready to play. Everybody, through pre-season, goes through different challenges. Joe is back from a long injury, so we need to make sure when he is introduced, he is ready. Alex has trained this week and is fine, but we did not want to take the risk.”
Howe also addressed the uncertainty surrounding Isak’s future: “It is difficult for me to sit here and give 100% clarity on any player. I’d never sit here and do that. It is football, and you never know what can happen. All I can say is that Alex is happy at Newcastle; he loves the players and staff, the team. I have never had any issue with him other than seeing him express his talent and express himself. Certainly, I am confident that he is going to be here at the start of the season.”
Liverpool’s interest in Isak is not new, as the club has long been admirers of the Swedish striker. However, with their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike advancing, a move for Isak seems unlikely at this stage. Despite the ongoing speculation, Isak has expressed his commitment to Newcastle. In a recent interview with the Swedish press, he emphasized his focus on performing for Newcastle and his desire to help the team achieve their goals.
Alexander Isak said: “There’s not much to say, really. I’m not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games. That’s where my focus lies.”
The situation remains fluid, with Liverpool’s transfer plans potentially impacting Isak’s future. As the transfer window progresses, both clubs and the player will be keen to resolve any uncertainties and focus on the upcoming season.
