Xavi Simons, the talented Dutch midfielder, has become a focal point for Chelsea’s transfer ambitions as they look to bolster their squad. With his contract at RB Leipzig running until June 2027, Simons’ impressive performances in the Bundesliga last season have not gone unnoticed. He scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 25 appearances, making him a valuable asset for Leipzig. However, with the club potentially missing out on significant prize money, they might be compelled to sell some of their key players, including Simons, this summer.
Xavi Simons said: “My favourite position is as a 10, but I’ll play wherever the coach puts me and give 100% out on the pitch for the team. That goes without saying.”
Simons further commented to Bild: “Everyone has to improve – including me. Not everything is perfect all the time. But we work hard to make the fans happy in the end. That’s the process, and it’s getting better. It’s not about Xavi. It’s about RB Leipzig. We have to solve things together – and we will. We still have nine games and are in the cup. We will continue to train hard for that.”
In an interview with Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Simons added: “I’m still a young player, I have many dreams – and the club knows that.”
Chelsea has identified Simons as a potential target, with the club reportedly willing to meet Leipzig’s valuation of €80m (£68m) for the Netherlands international. The Blues are among several clubs monitoring his situation, with Arsenal also expressing interest. Despite the attention, Simons has remained focused on his current club, emphasizing the importance of team success over individual accolades.
If Chelsea were to secure Simons’ signature, he would likely fit into Enzo Maresca’s tactical setup, which utilizes two number 10s. This would see Simons potentially starting on the left while providing cover for Cole Palmer in his preferred role. However, it remains uncertain whether Chelsea will make a formal move, as Simons has reportedly turned down interest from Bayern Munich and shown little desire to return to the French capital.
As the transfer window progresses, Chelsea’s interest in Simons highlights their commitment to strengthening their squad with young, versatile talent. The Dutchman’s ability to play across various midfield roles makes him an attractive prospect for any top club looking to enhance their creative options.
