Aaron Ramsdale
Sunderland are reportedly considering a move for Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer. With Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic likely heading to Bournemouth, Sunderland have shifted their focus to Ramsdale to bolster their goalkeeping options. This development comes as Sunderland aims to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Fabrizio Romano said: “After official bid sent on Wednesday as revealed, Bournemouth are confident to get Djordje Petrovic deal done. Understand Petrovic has already accepted to join Bournemouth. Final green light from Chelsea, expected soon.”
Alex Crooks said: “Bit of a keeper merry-go-round developing. Bournemouth edging closer to an agreement with Chelsea for Petrovic. That deal would pave the way for Mark Travers to join Everton. Sunderland no longer considered in the race for Petrovic.”
The potential acquisition of Ramsdale would mark a significant move for Sunderland, who are looking to enhance their defensive lineup. Ramsdale, who joined Southampton in a deal worth up to £25 million last summer, has been identified as a viable option following the likely departure of Petrovic to Bournemouth. Meanwhile, Wolves’ Sam Johnstone is also on Sunderland’s radar as a possible alternative.
In other transfer news, Sunderland’s interest in Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche has been highlighted. Despite rumors linking Uche to a Premier League move, his agent clarified that Uche remains content at Getafe. However, the midfielder has expressed a desire to join the Premier League, with offers from Italy also on the table.
Uche’s agent said: “There’s no truth to those [Premier League] rumors. He [Uche] is happy at Getafe and is now focused on [Friday’s international friendly against] Russia with his national team. When the transfer window opens, you hear a lot of news. He’s clear that he wants to go to the Premier League. He has offers from Italy, but I don’t know why, he wants to go to the Premier. He will tell us from tomorrow.”
Sunderland’s pursuit of Ramsdale and interest in Uche underline the club’s ambition to compete at a higher level by securing top talent. As the transfer window progresses, Sunderland fans will be keenly watching to see how these potential deals unfold.
