Brighton and Hove Albion have officially announced the transfer of Odel Offiah to Preston North End, with the defender signing a four-year contract. The move marks a significant step in Offiah’s career as he joins the Championship side for an undisclosed seven-figure fee.
Odel Offiah said: “I’m delighted to be here. I can’t wait to get started. It’s obviously a massive club and I just can’t wait to play in front of the fans and show what I’m capable of. Speaking to the gaffer here about where he sees me playing and the role I have in the team, I think we saw eye to eye in terms of how I want to develop as a footballer. This is definitely the right place for me.”
Preston’s manager Paul Heckingbottom said: “I’m really happy we’ve managed to bring Odel to the club. He’s a young lad who wants to work hard and keep progressing. He’s really shared our enthusiasm in the conversations we’ve had with him about how we see him fitting into the team. We kept a close eye on him last season and a number of clubs were after him, so I’m really pleased to have him with us.”
Offiah’s journey with Brighton began in 2017 when he joined their academy. During his tenure, he made ten senior appearances for the club, including six in the Premier League. Last season, Offiah was on loan with League One side Blackpool, where he made 44 appearances, before spending the first half of the 2023/24 campaign at Hearts, contributing to nine matches for the Scottish club. His development over the years has been a testament to his dedication and the support from Brighton’s academy staff.
The transfer to Preston North End is seen as a strategic move for Offiah, who is eager to further his development and make a significant impact at his new club. The defender’s versatility and potential have been recognized by Preston, who were keen to secure his services amidst interest from several other clubs. With this move, Offiah is set to embark on a new chapter, aiming to establish himself as a key player in the Championship.
