Leon Osman Everton
Everton is on the brink of a transformative summer as the club prepares for a significant squad overhaul. With ten senior players set to depart and four more nearing the end of their contracts, including Seamus Coleman, Idrissa Gueye, Michael Keane, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, former Everton star and current pundit Leon Osman sees this as a pivotal moment for the club. The upcoming changes offer Everton a “fresh start” and a chance to rebuild under the guidance of manager David Moyes, who has already made a notable impact since his return.
Leon Osman said: “The squad overhaul set to take place this summer offers Everton the chance of a ‘fresh start’. Ten senior players are already due to leave the club with four more soon to be out-of-contract. For Osman, the chance to build a squad with David Moyes’ input represents an opportunity for progress as the club looks to make the most of the new era set to be ushered in by owners The Friedkin Group as the team approaches its first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Everton have had so many managers over the years and so many different styles of player who play different systems. David Moyes knows what Everton are.”
Osman added: “Having spoke to a couple of the squad, they love the clarity and what he’s asking of them. A manager has to ask for that level and he always did that when I played for him. You also look at [Jake] O’Brien, who has excelled at right-back when people thought he couldn’t do it. We need to make sure these people stay on the pitch… It’s time to get behind the new hierarchy and I expect they would lean into Moyes’ experience as much as they can. I trust David Moyes more than anyone.”
David Moyes’ return to Everton in January proved to be a turning point for the club. At the time, Everton was precariously close to the relegation zone, but Moyes managed to steer the team to safety, culminating in a 13th-place finish after ending the season with three consecutive wins. His leadership has been well-received by the players, who appreciate the clarity and expectations he brings to the team.
As Everton looks ahead to its first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the new ownership under The Friedkin Group is expected to rely heavily on Moyes’ experience and vision. The upcoming summer presents a unique opportunity to reshape the squad, aligning it with Moyes’ strategic approach and ensuring key players like Jake O’Brien remain integral to the team’s future success. With a focus on stability and progress, Everton aims to capitalize on this period of transition, setting the stage for a promising new era.
