Max Verstappen has shared his admiration for Manchester United, owing much to the club’s Dutch connections and legendary stories. He discussed his feelings towards the club and its history with Sir Alex Ferguson as manager, which he finds inspiring.
Max Verstappen said “I just like the story behind when Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager, it just inspires me. I like it. I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s really cool and it’s a cool club’.”
Max Verstappen also reflected on Manchester United’s new management and their recent performance, expressing his views on the potential of the team’s manager and his hope for their success.
Max Verstappen said “It’s going to be a big task, but he’s an exciting manager. He’s still very young. I think he has a lot of potential and I just hope that he brings the best out of the players, of himself.”
Despite his loyalty to Manchester United, Verstappen admitted that he enjoys watching the Dutch national team do well, and he doesn’t hate other clubs, including Liverpool where his friends Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo play.
Max Verstappen said “I just like to stay in touch. Of course, I like to see the Dutch national team do well. I’m not that idiot that hates another club. When I see Virgil play or Cody, when they do well at Liverpool, that excites me as well.”
Max Verstappen expressed his enthusiasm for teams performing well, acknowledging that he also supports Barcelona, but without animosity towards Real Madrid.
Max Verstappen said “When they’re leading in the league, I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s great’. They’re having an amazing season. It’s cool. I’m also a fan of Barcelona. It’s not like I hate Real Madrid.”
