Ross Barkley was discussing the team’s outlook and morale despite their current winless streak.
Ross Barkley said “We want to be winning the game after the difficult spell we’ve been through but there’s plenty of big characters in the changing room. We all want to win. It just didn’t go our way today. It’s disappointing. We came back from conceding and tried to build up from that with the momentum and try to kill the game but it just didn’t go our way. But we’re sticking together and the manager’s pushing us as hard as ever to keep raising our levels. Maybe this is just a little dip and maybe this is what we need to kick on. Hopefully we get that win next week against Chelsea and then we’ll kick on again. I’m annoyed with the result. Everyone in the squad should be annoyed because we should be winning the game with the quality players that we’ve got. We should be killing that game really. But it didn’t go our way so we’ve got things to learn. It’s one of them days.”
Ross Barkley shared insights into his interpersonal role within the Aston Villa squad and the dynamics of player interactions during games.
Ross Barkley said “I speak to the majority of the squad. We’re all close. I’m not the most vocal but nowadays the players are all really close. It’s changed a bit from back when I started at Everton. It was a lot more vocal back in the day.”
Ross Barkley was comparing the significance of upcoming matches to the game against Bayern Munich, emphasizing the challenge and opportunity for the team.
Ross Barkley said “It’s massive. A similar game to Bayern Munich, a massive club with a huge history, top players and a new manager with a different way of playing. We’ll go through that the next few days to approach the game in the correct way. It’s going to be a challenge. The Brugge game didn’t go as planned but now’s the time to kick on again. We’ve surprised a lot of teams in years gone by under Unai. If there’s blips, the team gets lifted so there’s nothing to worry about from our side. We started off with three wins in three. This game is huge for us. If we get that win, it’s four in five and that’ll be massive for us. It’ll give the lads a massive lift and the fans as well.”
