New England manager Lee Carsley has praised Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White. Gareth Southgate’s successor was speaking in a press conference today (Thursday) after drafting in several new players including Gibbs-White for the Nations League fixtures against Ireland – whom Carsley used to represent as a player – and Finland. On the Forest man’s selection ,
Lee Carsley said “People will be a lot more aware of Morgan [Gibbs-White]… than of Angel [Gomes]. Morgan’s a very attacking player; full of energy, very creative, very exciting, excellent attitude, excellent work rate…He’s been really successful with England – which I thought was important. A lot of these players that we have called in; they are used to winning and getting to them stages [latter] of tournaments and doing really well. Morgan…would’ve been part of that World Cup team [Under-17s] and they done the Euros as well.”
His inclusion in the manager’s first squad will have been influenced by the former Everton and Birmingham City midfielder coached Gibbs-White during his tenure as Under-21 manager – which culminated in the Young Lions securing the Under-21 Euro in July last year. For most Reds supporters his Three Lions selection will come as no surprise as the Gibbs-White has been the difference in countless games since he joined from Wolves in August 2022. Since his arrival at the City Ground , he has been both Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-choice ‘number 10’ providing a crucial threat to most opponents in the Premier League . His consistent performances earned him Forest’s Player of the Season award following his first season at the Reds. Last term, he improved his numbers as he registered 15 goal involvements in the Premier League – five goals and 10 assists.
