Marc Cucurella has hinted that he could help Chelsea in their transfer pursuit of Brighton star Moises Caicedo. The Spanish left-back spent one season on the south coast with Caicedo before his £63million move to Stamford Bridge last summer. With Caicedo now pushing for the move, Chelsea could have their own representative in the race after Cucurella’s comments on Caicedo. Speaking ahead of the Blues facing Wrexham on Wednesday in North Carolina, the 24-year-old was questioned on what the 21-year-old would bring to Chelsea and his reply was telling.

Marc Cucurella said: “I think he wants to come here. I’ve read in the media lots of times. I have a good relationship with him, he is a good midfielder and if he comes I think we have a top midfielder for a long time.”

Following news of the second bid being rejected, Pochettino was also quizzed on the midfielder but he remained coy.

Mauricio Pochettino said: “All of the team are working very hard to get what we want. I don’t want to speak about specific names. Like us, many clubs are working to sign a player to improve their team.”

Chelsea have already confirmed the arrivals of Kendry Paez, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Dujuan Richards, Alex Matos, Diego Moreira, Ishe Samuels-Smith and Angelo Gabriel, however only Nkunku and Jackson look primed to immediately impact the first-team picture. Talks are also ongoing to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon with Pochettino in search of a creative spark to replace the one lost through the departures of Kai Havertz and Mason Mount. When asked about his overall thoughts on the business done thus far,

Mauricio Pochettino said: “We are working really hard to finish the squad. I think the players are showing commitment and working so well. We are so happy with the way they are working. We need to work during this pre-season to be a really strong squad and then to evolve in the way we want to play and to apply the concept we expect from then.”
