Nicolas Tagliafico would be a “decent” replacement for Ben Chilwell if the England international leaves Leicester City this summer. That is the opinion of former Foxes defender Frank Sinclair. Chilwell is being heavily tipped for a move away from the King Power Stadium, with Chelsea and Manchester City among the clubs said to be interested. This has prompted speculation that Leicester will be looking for a new left-back. Tagliafico of Ajax has emerged as a possible target for the Foxes, according to reports.
The Argentina international is also said to be wanted by Paris Saint-Germain. The 27-year-old has made 99 appearances for Ajax since joining the club in 2018, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists. He has previously played for Banfield and Independiente in his native Argentina.
Frank Sinclair said: “If you get any young players from Ajax, more often than not, it’s good business because you’re not paying through the roof to sign them. More often than not, they’re coming from a fantastic development background and Ajax have been renowned for developing young players for many years. If you look at the record of how many of them go on to be top class players in different continents of the world as well. I don’t think it’s much of a gamble. Nicolas Tagliafico certainly looks exciting – he’s everything that you look at, and that you’d want in a modern day full-back. I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be a decent replacement.”
