Alex Ferguson was spoilt for choices in the attacking half of the pitch that season and the signs were increasing that the future of Russian International Andrei Kanchelskis was going to be in danger. Eric Cantona had become undroppable in a United side that saw a resurgent Bryan Robson and Lee Sharp compete with Mark Hughes for spots in the starting eleven.
Ryan Giggs and Paul Ince were already established and with the arrival of Roy Keane, it looked like the Russian was the odd one out even though Ferguson maintained his praise for the winger.
Alex Ferguson said “Ince and Keane are the future midfield of this club for years to come. Andreis has been playing well, and looks to have adapted to the English game and is doing really well.”
