Chelsea 2 – QPR 0 – Glenn Hoddle puts in a great performance to get his first win as Player Manager

Former Newcastle striker Gavin Peacock tormented Rangers with a goal and an assist to hand new Chelsea boss Glenn Hoddle his first win. Peacock was a £1.25 million summer signing for Chelsea and put the home team ahead after 18 minutes. The player-manager Hoddle started the move for the first goal whereas Peacock set up the second goal for Tony Cascarino in the 51st minute.

It could have been a different story if Chelsea keeper Dmitri Kharine had not pulled off a brilliant reaction save five minutes before Cascarino’s decisive score.

Norwich City 1 – Ipswich Town 0 – The canaries win first East Anglian Derby in Eight Years

A season earlier Ipswich Town were the team that started the downfall of Norwich just when the Canaries looked like winning the premier league. But Norwich won the East Anglian Derby for the first time in eight years to avenge that loss as Jeremy Goss scored his second goal in two matches.

Goss had scored against Leeds a week earlier, finished off a great Mark Robins cross from the left and doubled his goal tally from previous season already.

Ipswich started the match sharper with Bryan Gunn called into the action twice. But once Goss fired the Canaries into the lead, they took control and looked like the side who would score the second for the best part of the game.
