Jurgen Klopp has described Diogo Jota’s return to action for Liverpool, ahead of their welcoming of the Portuguese international’s former club Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield on Wednesday night, as ‘massive’. He’s back up and running, having missed the World Cup, just in time for the visit of Wolves, who under Julen Lopetegui dispatched the Merseysiders at Molineux a matter of weeks ago, and he could lead the line depending on the fitness of Darwin Nunez.
Jurgen Klopp said: “Massive. Diogo is an exceptional player. He needs to get rhythm now. He was tired after the game on Saturday and we have to see. He will definitely be involved again if nothing happens. Top class player, versatile. Helpful for this busy period.”
Liverpool, after a shaky January where they were well beaten by Wolves, Brighton (in the league and the cup) and Brentford, are eyeing a push for a Champions League place in their remaining games and they can take inspiration from their own ability to clinch fourth in 2021, when they came late in the season with a challenge.
Jurgen Klopp added: “It helps because it was us. We don’t have to say it was another team, but you can’t constantly rely on history, that we did it before. I really see we have the right mindset. We are ready to go. Now we have to do it.”
