Julen Lopetegui hailed Wolves’ defensive resilience after they shut West Ham out to climb out of the relegation zone. Daniel Podence netted the decisive goal in the 48th minute at Molineux before Wolves’ defenders took centre stage to keep West Ham at bay. Wolves recorded their first clean sheet in the Premier League under Lopetegui and have now won two of their four games under him, in contrast to two in 15 beforehand.
Julen lopetegui said: “We are fighting a lot and want to work with a clean sheet. The first clean sheet in the Premier League, for me, is going to be key. We need to work with clean sheets in the Premier League because all the teams have quality to score. West Ham is a fantastic team, with fantastic players and a very experienced coach. It is going to be a very hard and long race. We have to be ready to arrive at the last moment to achieve our aim. I highlighted the commitment and the character of the players. We will celebrate for two hours and tomorrow we are thinking about Liverpool.”
Wolves are out of the relegation zone for the first time since the end of October. Lopetegui is now trying to make sure they stay above that dreaded line.
Julen lopetegui added: “The table is important in the last match,” he added. “It is important to put in the energy to help the players to improve and be able to win each match. Afterwards, we are going to see the table, not today. In football you have to be balanced when you win, and after you lose you must not show much frustration because in three or four days you have another match.”
